@ Gaston: Just to make sure, the Danish fuge-e is not a plural suffix although it could look like it. The fuge-e is applied even on logical singular, e.g. ‘barn-e-vogn’ (= pram, lit. ‘child wagon’) that only contains a single child. Also the plural of ‘barn’ is ‘børn’, not *’barne’.
Actually, we never used plural forms in compounds, except for a few well-established counter examples, e.g. ‘mødregruppe’ (a group for mothers), ‘småkage’ (little cookie).
One could perhaps speculate, though, that some children might interpret the fuge-e as a plural-ish suffix. I guess most of the time a stem + fuge-e will refer to the generel concept of e.g. dogs, rather than a particular dog.
